President Obama signed a new toxic chemical law which is the first major overhaul in 40 years. This is a great step towards cancer prevention and protection of our health and environment. It has been too long in coming.
Congress spent more than three years working on the bill, which rewrites the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act and aims to “bring chemical regulation into the 21st century,” according to the American Chemistry Council.
Rules and standards were updated for the usage of tens of thousands of chemicals such as formaldehyde. President Obama stated that for the first time in its history, the U.S. would be able to regulate chemicals effectively.
