I am very thankful for President Obama and Vice President Biden’s “moonshot” for a cancer cure. We are close and it is very possible the cures will be achieved in the near future. But like the traditional approach to most serious problems, we are always trying to fix the outcome of so many bad actions committed without consideration of the consequences. We pollute, causing cancer and damage to our environment, without regard to the cost to humanity. There are huge costs incurred trying to remedy the damage caused by pollution, as well as payments for increased insurance and cancer treatments.
Medicines are given without need or regard to the damage people incur through direct or indirect exposure (such as antibiotics and anti-depressants in our water supply). How many cases of cancer are a result of contaminated water, food and air as a result of greed and very little action on the part of our leaders to protect us and our children. (Look at Flint Michigan as an example.) As an article I shared earlier states, there are 80,000 known toxic chemicals being used commercially which we are being exposed to many times unknowingly. When will we address the cause instead of trying to dig out from under the mess.
Dec17, 2015 it was reported in The Washington Post that approximately 90% of cancers have an environmental cause. Smoking alone accounts for 30% of all cancers. We allow cigarettes to be sold regardless of the consequences. We allow toxic chemicals to be used in our food packaging, in our personal care products, in our food and clothing, regardless of the devastation to the health of mankind.
We also need to remove the red tape holding up new cancer treatments. There are daily ads on TV for drugs which may cause cancer, stroke, heart attack, suicide etc. but we cannot give a promising drug to a dying cancer patient because it might kill them. It might also save their life.
We need to remove the welfare of private interests out of the welfare of mankind, our fellow creatures and our earth.
